The kids were in the crib while I was strapped with one of them to my back. Ha! It was beginning to be clear, but was far from completed. To furnish the home would take a lot of effort with regards to budget and time. I would also have to do my favourite shopping. My three sons and I were looking for the hidden treasures attending estate sales in order to reduce my expenses. Each week we would spend the week of Thursday through Saturday at estate sales and garage sales purchasing old and brand new furniture. In the end, I repainted and smoothed in the driveway in the week. The look was similar to this... This was when my interest in the restoration of furniture first began. After our home was furnished I couldn't put it down! On the streets I was able to rent a tiny area and then sold a few items. It was possible to expand my space because I owned plenty of pieces that I needed. At home, I started hosting open houses in which more than 1000 guests could visit and buy any item they wanted on the first floor over the course of a weekend. Growing Days is the result of this. When my business grew, so did our little family. I was trying to find that perfect balance of having starting a business and be a mommy too. Growing Days was the obvious option. Nora was born in 2013 and became our fourth baby. My company was doing well however I needed a break. I made the decision to take some time off from my vintage furniture and slow down to remain at home with the kids. In the beginning, this was exactly what I needed. After a while, without a phone, it began to call. People were calling me and asking for help with their interior decorating and home renovations. A majority of them came into my residence during my furniture open houses. After that, I gradually took on more clients, in my own way. Then I was able to have many clients, and had an enterprise of renovations to homes. If you had told me that my venture would end up being an idea for the DIY Network show, I might have thought you were crazy. When I look back, it still makes me giggle.
